  • Hopper – This shows you a calendar of the coming year to find the cheapest possible flights.  This is a good app to use if your travel dates arenโ€™t set in stone
  • LoungeBuddy Airport Lounges – When you create a trip in this app it will tell you which lounges you have access to based on the airports youโ€™ll be transiting through as well as how to purchase access
  • Priority Pass – This offers access to over 1300 lounges worldwide and offers meal vouchers at selected airport restaurants
  • FlightAware Flight Tracker – You can track live flights so you can check on delays and cancellations.  
  • LHR London Heathrow Airport – Shows flight arrivals and departures, shops and restaurants, car parking, train tickets and Heathrow rewards

  • Monzo  – Both of these are prepaid debit cards that can be used globally, usually without a charge
  • XE Currency Converter – Live and up-to-the-minute currency rates and can be viewed offline
  • Tipster – Just enter the destination and receive all the tipping advice you need.  This can be useful as in some countries tipping is considered an insult
  • Trail Wallet – This allowed you to keep track of what you spend and to create budgets
  • Tricount – Calculates shared costs and splits bills.  Every time someone pays for something you just enter the amount

  • Rome2rio – Shows different ways and modes of transport to reach your destination
  • maps.me – Download the city while you are still on wifi and once downloaded it can be used without wifi or data
  • Yandex maps – For countries that donโ€™t use google maps such as Central Asia

  • Viator – Great for all sorts of tours
  • Get your guide – Also great for all sorts of tours.  If Viator doesnโ€™t have what you want then get your guide will and vice-versa

  • Culture Trip – Just type in your destination and the app will give you city guides, activities and suggested tours for that place
  • Telegraph Travel Guides – For those Telegraph subscribers

  • Translate or Google Translate – Useful wherever you go!
  • What3words – Plan exact meet up locations, tell car breakdown services exactly where you are and help emergency services to locate you
  • Trip Advisor – Reviews for pretty much anything you want to do, anywhere you want to stay and wherever you want to eat
  • VPN – Lots available and some are free.  This will enable you use Netflix and things like that.  I like Melon VPN and VPN Proxy Master
  • Smart Traveller – Mainly for USA travellers.  This shows what visas and vaccinations you will need
  • Trip Whistle Global SOS – This is designed for safety.  It maps your exact location, thus allowing you to send your GPS coordinates or location.  It also provides emergency numbers for fire, police and doctors in nearly 200 countries
  • FCO – Check destinations for travel restrictions and guidance
  • Newspaper App (Telegraph/Guardian/Daily Express) – Keep up with what is happening in the world, if you feel like it!
  • Packr Travel Packing List – Donโ€™t forget anything!
  • Netflix – For those long flights or other long journeys


  • Calm – This offers meditations on topics such as self awareness, calming, anxiety, breathing, lowering stress levels and happiness.  There are also music options for focusing, relaxing and sleeping
  • Strava – Record your walks around the city and see mileage and elevation
  • Pedometer – Track your steps and set daily goals
  • 7m Workout – Different workouts for all parts of the body, each of which are 7 minutes long.  No equipment is needed and these are perfect for doing in your hotel room
